(TheConservativeNews.org) – On May 25 of this year, the death of George Floyd set in motion the worst period of civil unrest in the history of 21st-century America. However, the circumstances surrounding his death are still somewhat unclear.
While many have placed the blame squarely on Derek Chauvin, the police officer who restrained Floyd, medical reports revealed there was fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system when he died. Floyd also suffered from sickle-cell anemia and had still tested positive for COVID-19 at the time.
Chauvin faces a charge of second-degree murder in relation to the incident. The other three officers on the scene are charged with aiding and abetting this murder. All four officers have been released from custody on bonds. They will stand trial together in Minneapolis on March 8, 2021.
Clearly, the tactics Chauvin and his colleagues employed that day were poorly chosen. However, we must remember they were dealing with an inebriated, unstable, and potentially dangerous man in George Floyd. The mainstream media have neglected to take that into account; the courts will hopefully not make the same mistake.
