(TheConservativeNews.org) – Tensions between the United States, Russia and China are high. China recently built mock US carriers to use as target practice. Russia also made headlines when it announced the successful testing of its Zircon missile on November 29. The build-up of forces and apparent threats of aggression have prompted one US commander to ask for reinforcements.

After performing military exercises alongside the Royal Australian Navy, German Navy, Royal Canadian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force for 10 days beginning on November 21, US Navy Vice Admiral Karl Thomas called for more aircraft carriers in the Pacific Ocean.

Vice Adm. Thomas asserted that his call for more carriers was to dissuade Russia and China from starting conflicts in the region. The vice admiral noted that a united front was essential to show other nations these opponents may be more aggressive. Thomas insisted that the United States and allies should conduct more joint exercises to show Russia, China and other adversaries that it’s not a good idea to attack.

China recently commissioned its own aircraft carrier in 2019, with a second set to launch as soon as 2024. Thomas mentioned that the combined forces showed an immense amount of power. The vice admiral added that four carriers may seem like a lot, but that six, seven or even eight would be more intimidating.
