(TheConservativeNews.org) – Former President Trump continues to make headlines and gain media attention. The former president certainly still holds some power in the political landscape, and a recent poll shows Trump is still at the top of the food chain.
Several big-name Republicans spoke at the Republican Leadership Conference in Mackinac Island, MI, which takes place every other year. Red voters from all over Michigan attended the conference and heard from prominent voices such as Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD), Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Nikki Haley, a former US ambassador for the United Nations.
However, it was former President Trump who made headlines as he led in the straw polls with 47.5% of the vote. The poll serves as an unofficial idea of who the people of Michigan want to be the top dog in the Republican party in 2024. Governor DeSantis came in second, at around 25%.
The poll indicates that President Trump still holds a certain amount of influence. However, an estimated 44% of Michigan conservatives say Trump’s endorsement of candidates wouldn’t affect their voting decisions. The next three Republicans to finish in the top five were Governor Noem, with 8%, and Senator Cruz and Haley, each with 6% of the vote.
