( – With Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) on his way out, someone has to fill the vacancy. Tim Ryan is one of the several candidates looking to replace the Ohio Senator.

Ryan, a current US Representative (D-OH), along with other Democrats and a slew of Republicans, seeks to win Portman’s seat in the midterm election. The Democrat’s Senate campaign team indicated they raised a massive $2.5 million in the third quarter of the year alone. Ryan’s campaign team claims the amount is more than any candidate has ever raised in an off-year’s third quarter.

Rep. Ryan’s campaign now boasts a total of $3.6 million cash on hand. Claiming that of 22,522 donations, in the third quarter, 96.6% were $100 or less. Izzy Levy, a spokesperson for Ryan, mentioned that the campaign’s fundraising achievements hint at a possible momentum change to flip Ohio’s Senate seat.

Ryan is the current front runner for the Democratic Senate primary, beating out Morgan Harper. If he wins the Democratic primary, he’ll go on to face the winner of the long Republican ticket, which features former Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken, businessman Mark Pukita, luxury car dealer Bernie Moreno, investment banker Mark Gibbons and venture capitalist JD Vance.

Will Ohio turn blue in the midterm election? If so, what could a flip mean for Republicans moving forward?
