When asked about the White House’s opinion of schoolchildren, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that they are having them practice social distancing measures and wear masks in order to stay safe. She added children will eat their lunches or snacks outside during frigid temperatures.
Psaki tried justifying it by saying. “I have a three-year-old who goes to school, sits outside for snacks and lunch, wears a mask inside, and it’s no big deal to him, I’m not saying that’s the case for everybody, but these are steps that schools are taking to keep kids safe.”
In Psaki’s opinion, it is okay for children to eat their lunches outside in cold temperatures if they are attending school during a COVID-19 pandemic. She suggests that it will “keep students safe.” She continued to say, “I think the vast majority of parents appreciate that,” and she believes it will help to limit the spread among elementary-aged children.
Psaki said the Biden administration hopes to get everyone back on track stating, “Obviously, we want to get to a point where we’re turning to a version of normalcy for everybody, right,” Psaki said while speaking to reporters. “Where you’re not sending your kids backpack with 7 extra masks, right, or you’re not adding two hats so that they’re warm outside for a snack. There’s no question that’s the case.”
Most parents agree that returning to pre pandemic standards would be beneficial. Various studies have shown that children and adolescents exhibit higher levels of depression, fear, anxiety, anger, irritability, and negative conduct when compared with pre pandemic rates. Making children eat outside this winter will just add to the trauma. We need to stop the lunacy for our children’s sake!
