The Ins and Outs of Voting

(TheConservativeNews.org) – Voting is one of the most important rights our Founding Fathers gave us when they wrote the Constitution. It’s the way we force politicians to hear our voices and it’s incredibly effective. In 2010, for instance, 2 years into former President Barack Obama’s administration, the Tea Party movement trounced the Democratic Party.

In fact, they lost more than 900 seats in state and the federal government posts combined during the Obama presidency. That happened because Conservatives turned out en masse to cast their ballots.

So, how can you be the change you want to see?

What You Need to Do

Before every election, you should check to make sure your voter registration is current. Every once in a while states clean up their voter rolls. Officials remove deceased individuals, those who have moved out of state, and other inactive voters.

Occasionally an active voter might get kicked off of the state’s roster. So, you just want to be sure you’re active.

How to Check Your Registration Status

It’s really simple to check your status. You can do it a couple of ways. First, you can visit the National Association of Secretaries of State’s (NASS) Can I Vote portal. You want to choose “voter registration status” and pick your state. You will be redirected to your state’s website where you can check to make sure you’re ready to go.

The other way to check your voter registration is by calling your local supervisor of the elections office and asking about your status.

Make Sure Your Friends Are Ready to Hit the Polls

After you check on your status, ask your friends and family if they’re ready to exercise their right to vote. If someone you love isn’t registered yet, give them a little nudge and see if you can convince them to take the plunge.

Remember, every vote counts and sometimes elections are decided by the slimmest of margins.
