Pelosi Admits to Needed Adjustments

(TheConservativeNews.org) – As progressives fight to pass a $3.5 trillion spending package, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is expressing her opinion. Republicans and some moderate Democrats believe the price tag on the bill is too high and have voiced their support of a smaller figure.

In a letter the Speaker sent to her fellow Democratic colleagues, she explains she hopes the $3.5 trillion package will come to the floor. However, Pelosi admits that they may need to make some changes to the bill.

The Senate has already passed a $1.2 trillion bill, but Pelosi has held off voting on it as progressives work the kinks out of the larger budget. Democrats hope they can hammer the $3.5 trillion legislation through both chambers of Congress without the need for Republican support.

Back in August, Pelosi set the deadline to vote on the bipartisan bill for September 27. In any case, progressive Democrats have voiced their intention to shoot the smaller one down if Congress doesn’t pass the $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill. It’s unclear how much Republican support the $1.2 trillion bill will receive, but moderates believe it won’t be enough to snuff out a progressive insurrection. The House is in a good position to vote the $3.5 trillion bill through, but the Senate is another story.

Moderate Democrats, such as Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), have voiced their opposition to the larger bill, citing their party needs to focus on the bipartisan bill and wait to pass the larger one next year.

With progressives refusing to support the bipartisan bill without the larger one, and moderates joining Republicans to stave off the larger price tag, it’s possible neither bill will pass.
