(TheConservativeNews.org) – As we get closer to January 20, the date for which the next presidential inauguration is scheduled, the debate about voting irregularities rages on. Around 140 Congressional Republicans plan to object to the official counting of votes scheduled to take place on January 6.
Unsurprisingly, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is refusing to engage with this movement. If a challenge to the vote is mounted, the Constitution allows each House of Congress to debate the issue for up to two hours. However, some commentators have questioned whether Speaker Pelosi will allow this in the chamber she presides over.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) had his say on the matter in an interview with Fox on Tuesday, December 5. He stated it was possible Pelosi would not allow the debate. He went on to claim that, considering the large-scale election protests scheduled to take place in Washington, DC, throughout the day, this move would be a “very bad look” for the House of Representatives.
Gaetz went on to discuss the various state results to which his colleagues were likely to object, mentioning Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania in particular.
As Democrats hold the majority in the House, the odds this challenge will succeed are slim. However, it’s democratically incumbent on Nancy Pelosi to ensure House members get the opportunity to debate its merits.
