(TheConservativeNews.org) – In discussions around gun violence, liberal commentators almost always jump to stricter gun laws as their preferred means of managing the problem. Their logic is that banning guns, or at least tightening up the rules around them, will reduce the number of firearms available to violent criminals. This line of thinking is, of course, flawed in a number of ways, and there are many stories that illustrate this.
On Tuesday, June 15, the Associated Press released a report on weapons that have gone missing from American military facilities over the last decade. AP found that at least 1,900 weapons have been either lost or stolen from military bases, and that some have even been used in crimes. The report also noted that this estimate was certain to be short, as some military facilities refused to give the “basic information” AP asked them for.
Our current government is intent on making it harder for law-abiding Americans to buy guns. In April of this year, President Joe Biden issued a host of executive actions to further this objective. In light of this story, it appears there are much more sensible ways the administration should be addressing our alleged “gun problem.”
