(TheConservativeNews.org) – Donald Trump may no longer be in public office, but his presence is still keenly felt in Washington, DC. The Republicans who chose to vote against him in the impeachment trial are facing retaliation from their voters. Even GOP representatives who voted against impeachment and made anti-Trump comments have found themselves in trouble. One of Trump’s former allies who turned antagonist is feeling the heat because of this.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is not safe. The Kentucky senator slated Trump after the impeachment trial (despite voting to acquit), holding the former president responsible for the events at the Capitol in January. He also wrote a negative op-ed about Trump in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

On Tuesday, February 16, the head of Nelson County’s Republican Party published a statement demanding McConnell’s resignation from his leadership position. Don Thrasher’s post claims McConnell “does not represent the Republican voters” of his area.

Donald Trump himself has also gone after Mitch McConnell, describing him as a “hack” and questioning his suitability as a leader within the GOP.

Donald Trump won 67.5% of the vote in Nelson County in the most recent presidential election, more than twice Joe Biden’s tally. It’s natural that the residents of the area felt let down by McConnell’s remarks.
