( – Despite the fact the presidential and congressional elections both took place over six weeks ago, the results of both remain outstanding. While 98 of the 100 Senate seats have been allocated, Georgia’s Senators will be decided by runoff election on January 5.

On Thursday, December 17, Joe Biden’s team released a new ad in Georgia promoting Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, the two Democrat candidates. Biden stresses that, without both men in the Senate, he would not be able to deliver another economic relief package if he takes the White House.

He promises to “fully fund” a response package that would make testing and vaccination free for every American.

It’s difficult to view this as anything other than populism. At a time when Georgians (and Americans in general) are struggling with COVID-19, both economically and from a public health perspective, Biden is holding them ransom.

If Democrats win both seats, there will be a 50/50 split in the Senate. If she becomes vice-president, Kamala Harris would hold the deciding vote in any deadlock. If Georgia does not elect at least one Republican, Democrats could end up controlling both houses of Congress.
