(TheConservativeNews.org) – The President of the United States (POTUS) was scheduled to visit Chicago this week. However, given the ongoing debate over his spending plan, President Biden decided it was best to stay in DC. He hopes to be able to negotiate with members of the Senate on a path forward.
Congress is deadlocked as Biden’s $3.5 trillion infrastructure plan doesn’t have the support it needs. While the monstrous spending bill passed through the House, centrist-Democrats are holding it up in the Senate as they disagree with the large price tag. In an effort to help push the bill through, Biden decided to cancel public appearances.
Republicans unsurprisingly oppose the huge bill, but Senate Democrats can pass it with a simple majority. Even so, two moderate Democrats are holding out against the bill. President Biden’s schedule was to visit the Windy City on Tuesday, but instead, he was in the White House meeting with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ).
The focus of the meeting was to negotiate and agree on a price tag for the $3.5 trillion bill, which includes funding for climate change, elder care, childcare, free universal pre-K, two years of free college, green energy and expanded food stamps. Despite Senator Sinema meeting with Biden three times, she has asserted that she will not support the massive package.
Senator Manchin noted that negotiations went well, but he didn’t make any commitments in regard to passing Biden’s $3.5 trillion proposal. President Biden has asked the senator several times what his ideal price for the bill is, but Manchin has yet to answer. For the legislation to pass, all 50 Democratic Senators need to be on board and vote yes. As of now, there are only 48, with Manchin and Sinema holding out.
