Iran Publicly Slams United States After Targeting US Ship

( – Ties between the US and Iran have rarely been strong in recent decades. This week, they took another turn for the worse.

On Monday, May 10, Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz reportedly made “unsafe maneuvers” in the presence of US Navy ships. According to John Kirby, who serves as Pentagon Press Secretary, 13 Iranian speedboats came at US vessels at pace and were “acting very aggressively.” They only backed off after the American ships released warning shots.

On Tuesday, May 11, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy rejected Kirby’s version of events. In a statement, the IRGC claimed its operatives’ actions were justified in the context of the “unprofessional behavior of the US Navy terrorist fleet.”

During his statement to the press, Kirby also mentioned that this act was more advanced than any instances of aggression from Iran in the recent past. This uptick in hostility could be related to the growing pressure on President Joe Biden to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal, which Donald Trump departed from in 2018.
