(TheConservativeNews.org) – Last month, President Joe Biden signed a $1.9-trillion COVID-19 package into law. Senate Democrats, somewhat controversially, used the budget reconciliation loophole to push the bill past the legislative filibuster and onto the president’s desk. On Wednesday, April 7, the Treasury Department gave us an update on how this money is being spent.

According to the announcement, the IRS has distributed 156 million direct payments, sending $36 billion to 25 million households, since the legislation passed. The most recent round of payments started arriving on Wednesday. Most recipients at this point are beneficiaries of federal assistance programs like Social Security.

The legislation provides $372 billion overall for direct relief payments. It’s the third bill of this kind; former President Donald Trump signed two relief packages last year.

These payments have suffered significant delays since the bill passed into law, with administrative issues at the Social Security Administration holding up relief for weeks for millions of Americans. It’s good to see things are now running more smoothly.
