(TheConservativeNews.org) – Much has been said of the influence of tech companies in the democratic process over the last couple of years. However, this has usually focused on the activity on their platforms, rather than their political financing efforts. While it doesn’t attract as much attention, these corporations pump significant sums into Washington through political action committees (PACs). Unsurprisingly, they’re not against leveraging this money to further their agenda.
On Monday, January 25, Google announced its PAC would not fund any member of Congress who voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election for at least one cycle. Facebook and Microsoft have also announced alterations to their political donation policies for the coming months.
Google made this decision on the basis of an internal review, which was set up in response to the protest at the Capitol on January 6. Ironically, the company’s move will still withdraw funding from representatives who have denounced that violence in the strongest terms. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is one good example.
Given the prevailing bias against anyone aligned with Donald Trump in the media and elsewhere, this news is hardly surprising. However, it’s yet another blow to the loyal politicians in Washington who have rightfully stuck by Trump.
