Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer Signs Petition to Remove Gavin Newsom

(TheConservativeNews.org) – Governor of California Gavin Newsom (D) had, to put it bluntly, a disastrous term in 2020. The state’s draconian COVID-19 restrictions were widely criticized as excessive, and authorities have been unable to deal with rising unemployment levels. In November 2020, Newsom was also embroiled in a personal scandal when he was photographed dining in a restaurant with 12 other guests without wearing a mask, clearly violating his own COVID-19 rules.

It now appears as though Newsom’s failures and indiscretions may be about to catch up with him.

On Saturday, January 2, former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer (R) announced he had signed a petition to remove the Democrat from office.

The movement behind the petition is called the Recall Gavin 2020 campaign. According to the website, there are already 80,000 Californian voters signed up as volunteers. The campaign’s homepage criticizes Newsom’s policy of releasing prisoners, his expensive “supportive housing” program, and the economic unrest that’s accompanied his lockdowns.

For seven years, Faulconer was San Diego’s mayor; he vacated the office after completing his second term in December 2020. He’s indicated he would consider running for California’s governor role himself.
