(TheConservativeNews.org) – Last week Inspiration4, the first all-private citizen space mission launched by SpaceX, was looking to raise $200 million for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, wanted to help the group meet their goal.
The tech giant responded to calls from the public for him to donate money to Inspiration4’s cause on Saturday. In a tweet, Musk declared he would donate $50 million to the fundraiser.
The generous donation was surely a nice welcome home gift for the four civilians on the mission, one of which is Haley Arceneaux, the first cancer survivor and first person with a prosthesis to go into space.
The mission already received $60 million in donations, boosted by a $100 million gift from Inspiration4’s commander and partial financer, Jared Isaacman. In combination with Musk’s contribution, the mission quickly reached its goal. Musk also provided the completely automated Dragon capsule, which recently saw its fourth manned flight. All proceeds will go toward cancer treatment and breakthrough research, according to Inspiration4.
