Democrats Seek to Make Unwarranted Changes to FBI

(TheConservativeNews.org) – Our society’s contemporary preoccupation with “social justice” has led to many changes, and continues to do so. Some of these modifications are entirely justifiable; others, less so.

On February 24, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) introduced the National Commission on Renaming the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Headquarters Building Act of 2021. As the name suggests, the bill would rename the FBI Headquarters Building in Washington, DC. Connolly claimed J. Edgar Hoover was “a racist… a homophobe… [and] a misogynist.” With this in mind, Connolly stated, the building should bear the name of “someone who deserves it.”

Edgar Hoover was the first director of the FBI. He occupied the position for almost 50 years.

Connolly’s bill, if successful, will appoint a committee of eight people to decide on a new name for the building. Each appointee will have knowledge of federal government history or “social justice issues.”

When having discussions like this, it’s important to remember modern values are very different to those that prevailed decades ago. Hoover may have espoused viewpoints that would be considered abhorrent today. However, he was an important figure in early federal policing, and his legacy deserves recognition.
