(TheConservativeNews.org) – New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo found himself at the center of two explosive scandals related to the pandemic over the last year. For one, it came to light that his administration had, apparently, deliberately underreported COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes. It also emerged Cuomo had allowed COVID-19 patients to return from hospitals to nursing homes once they were “medically stable,” potentially allowing for the virus to spread to other residents.
It transpires, however, that Cuomo is a step closer to escaping consequences on one of these fronts.
On Friday, July 23, the Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed it was not pursuing a civil rights investigation into admissions policies in government-run nursing homes in New York during the pandemic. It also announced it would not be undertaking such probes in Pennsylvania or Michigan, where there had been suspicions of similar issues.
Ron Kim, a New York Democrat assemblyman who lost his uncle in a New York nursing home, appeared on Fox & Friends to criticize the decision on Tuesday. He called Cuomo a “dangerous man” and said the governor would do anything to “save his own behind.” He reminded viewers that other civil investigations could potentially be pursued, and a criminal investigation was ongoing.
So, while Andrew Cuomo has won a small victory, he’s not out of the woods yet.
