( – Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) has come up with an interesting proposal. He introduced legislation on Friday, August 28, that would prevent people from getting any federal unemployment assistance if they’re convicted of any crime during the protests.

Banks’ proposal is called the Support Peaceful Protest Act, and it goes after criminals convicted of federal offenses during the demonstrations. The bill would prohibit these lawbreakers from receiving unemployment benefits under the CARES Act (or any other coronavirus relief package).

And that’s not all.

Banks also wants to hold rioters convicted of federal crimes financially liable for the cost of policing.

Banks said he was inspired to write the legislation after seeing the vile behavior by protesters toward Conservatives after they attended the Republican National Convention (RNC) at the White House last week. He was disgusted that local officials mostly turned a blind eye to the behavior.

In light of the enhanced federal benefits going out, Banks said taxpayers are giving cash to jobless rioters while they destroy our communities. He added that the criminals need to be cut off from their funding to make them suffer the “full financial consequences” of their despicable actions.
