( – In the movies, people often see two enemies come together to fight a common threat. A similar scenario seems to be unfolding in real life between Russia and the United States as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director heads to Moscow.

Director William Burns of the CIA went to Moscow to speak with the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Agency, Sergei Naryshkin. The pair allegedly spoke about teaming up to counter global terrorism on November 3.

The director’s uncommon visit to Moscow indicates that despite the history and high tensions between the two world powers, both countries want to communicate. Burns spoke with Secretary Nikolai Patrushev of Russia’s Security Council on November 2, when the two allegedly talked about US-Russia relations.

Are these talks a good sign? Americans and Russians might both benefit from the improved relationship as it could push the two countries further from war. Observers still must question what might result from these meetings.

Terrorism isn’t an issue only one country deals with; it’s an international problem that requires global effort to stop. Perhaps the United States and Russia have both finally realized that they won’t be able to tackle this issue without help from one other.
