(TheConservativeNews.org) – America watched in disbelief as Bill Cosby, the comedian who became known as one of the country’s most notorious sex offenders, was released from prison last week. The 83-year-old secured his freedom after his legal team successfully challenged his 2018 conviction for the drugging and sexual assault of Andrea Constand. It emerged Cosby had given testimony in a previous civil case, which should not have been used as evidence in any subsequent criminal actions, but was, in fact, used to convict him.

On Wednesday, June 30, the day of Cosby’s release, Andrea Constand shared a statement slamming the court’s decision. She called their judgment “disappointing” and expressed concern that it might put victims in a position where they felt they had to choose between civil and criminal actions against their attackers.

The statement went on to question the legal reasoning behind Cosby’s release. It said the decision not to pursue criminal charges against him in 2005 arose from “prosecutorial discretion” rather than a formal immunity agreement. It also highlighted that none of Cosby’s alleged victims were made aware of the details of the decision not to prosecute at the time.

Cosby cannot face criminal charges arising from these particular offenses again. However, Gloria Allred, the attorney representing 33 of the women who have made allegations against Cosby, has stated she will file a new civil action against the disgraced star.
