(TheConservativeNews.org) – U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas calling on them to open a federal hate crime investigation into the shooting at The Covenant School, a Christian elementary school in Nashville TN.
Hawley targeted the statute which states causing bodily injury to a person based on their religion is a hate crime.
Hawley closed the letter, “The full resources of the federal government must be brought to bear to determine how this crime occurred, and who may have influenced the deranged shooter to carry out these horrific crimes. Hate that leads to violence must be condemned. And hate crimes must be prosecuted.”
Hawley delivered a speech on the Senate floor addressing the hate crime that took place in Nashville. He called on all members of the Senate to condemn the Nashville shooting as a hate crime. He announced he was introducing a resolution to designate the shooting as the hate crime “that it is”. He also called on his fellow Senators to “condemn hateful rhetoric that leads to violence.”
Hawley then went after corporate America calling on “corporate partners” to make their voices heard condemning this violence against Christians asking them to stand with this community.
When asked by a reporter if the Monday specifically targeting people of faith, US President Joe Biden responded that he had no idea. “I have no idea,” Biden replied.
Biden’s response to being informed that Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo) believed that the attack specifically targeted Christian believers caused raised eyebrows. “Well, I probably don’t then,” Biden quipped, chuckling after the remark, and then adding, “No, I’m joking. No, I have no idea.”
During an appearance on the “Ingraham Angle” on Fox News Tuesday, Hawley told host Laura Ingraham that Biden’s comments were “beneath the dignity” of the presidency. “That is totally beneath the dignity of the office of the presidency of the United States. This is a guy, this is an office, that has the responsibility of leading this country – children are dead,” Hawley argued.
“Biden should be acknowledging the targeting of people of faith. He should be saluting the law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line and saved hundreds of kids. But he should be saying we’re going to get to the bottom of this, we’re going to call it for what it is – a hate crime – and we’re going to do a full investigation and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” the senator added.
