(TheConservativeNews.org) – The dreaded Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to cause issues across the nation and the world at large. It now looks as though the state of Hawaii could receive new emergency restrictions in advance of the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Lieutenant Gov. Josh Green (D) revealed this week that authorities are considering imposing a 72-hour stay-at-home order in the state over the weekend. The hope is this measure might curb climbing infection rates. Hawaii recorded its worst day ever in terms of positive cases on Sunday, August 29, and is currently reporting a daily average of 900 new infections. However, hospitalizations are holding steady at just over 400.

Rumors have abounded about potential lockdowns of various lengths in Hawaii of late. Governor David Ige (D) took to Twitter to clear the air on Monday, saying authorities were not planning a four-week movement restriction at the time. However, he did not rule out the possibility of a snap lockdown over the holiday weekend, and advised anyone thinking of traveling to Hawaii to postpone their plans.

A lockdown over the long weekend will no doubt be unwelcome news for residents of Hawaii, as well as anyone planning to travel there from the mainland. This is yet another reminder that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over.
