2016 Presidential Candidate and Founder of McAfee Antivirus Arrested

(TheConservativeNews.org) – John McAfee, the controversial software entrepreneur who ran for the White House in 2016, found himself in deep legal trouble this week. On Monday, October 5, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) published an indictment that they served McAfee in June of this year. The publication also mentioned McAfee’s arrest in Spain, where he remains pending his extradition.

The indictment focuses on cryptocurrency transactions he made in 2017 and 2018. He allegedly promoted a number of securities via Twitter without disclosing his interests in them; this amounts to securities fraud. Sources indicate McAfee made over $23 million from these transactions.

The DOJ has also charged him with tax evasion. The indictment alleges the tech magnate did not file any tax returns for four years (2014-2018). Those working the case estimate that his earnings over this period would have been in the millions of dollars.

McAfee, who ran against Gary Johnson for the Libertarian Party nomination in 2016’s presidential race, is unlikely to have much success in politics after this. If convicted, he’ll face a jail term of up to five years, as well as a hefty fine.
